Andrew Palmer I was blown away when I heard this album. It's technical and clever, but not showy or metal, and it has great melodies that will grow on you with time. Every year I find an unexpected gem - this was this year's! Favorite track: Number More Numbers.

Wonderfall 03:34
grasping the prison bars and demanding that they be set free but their crimes are inherited and the prison remains to be seen i know you regret not putting more of an effort in that's how i felt but now i'm starting to believe this was never made for us to achieve i wanna live like they do the way that we perceive hollywood so many movies make me wish that i were them but reality started sinking in and the view from this prison cell looks to be more and more of the same i'm planning my escape (for what it's worth what it's worth) tell me there's a better way (for what it's worth what it's worth) i said i'm planning my escape (for what it's worth what it's worth) you can lie to me today (for what it's worth what it's worth) i'm changing the pages of my future biography awful confusing as the story's gonna be more attempting to satisfy the need of an insatiable host an ever-changing identity constantly planning how the future's gonna be with a struggle to see it happily and the view from this prison cell looks to be more and more of the same i'm planning my escape (for what it's worth what it's worth) tell me there's a better way (for what it's worth what it's worth) i said i'm planning my escape (for what it's worth what it's worth) you can lie to keep me sane (for what it's worth what it's) worth we'll never quench this thirst unless you're born free from here there's a fat chance you're going anywhere defy it if you dare i'm but a fraction of one in a majority stripped of their freedom (nowhere to go) never regret at least that is what i believe

i know there's at least a pinch full of sincerity where someone who couldn't care about anybody else but their superior self said they'd settle up their share though this fable we've been told seems incredibly fiction i'm suggesting a dictionary and to look up the word (look up the word) karma they say that karma's a bitch but you're obviously weaving your way through it and so we're all nonbelievers as i get the shorter end of the stick ya a bridge burnt a pattern repeated another bridge burnt puts you out onto the street i walk past a part of east hastings and share a quick glance double take and see your face at least i predict you'll be with a cup on the corner always drunk and disorderly as a result of one thing (a result of your) i know it's hard when you come home to those puppy eyes staring at you to puff up and discipline the way your folks do i know it's hard when you come home to those puppy eyes staring at you to puff up and kick that bitch out off your front stoop i once felt a bit of compassion but never once felt that from you in any way now you're gone and you feel no remorse you have nothing to say just walked away can't say that we're surprised you made little attempt and had so little expected of you the only thing you've got left (all you've got is your) karma

i've got the feeling that you're on your own as of recently and you want somebody but now the poison of your phacebook feed leaves an awful taste in the mouth surrounding you there's no way there's no escape it's running through your veins 'less you sever off what brings the pain some lead a life without a trace others stalk the past or they stalk potentials leaving them the apple on which a witch hath laid her hand this network hides its face behind a potent glamour in truth would rather you and yours crash in what's soon to be your past somebody told me that the only way you can win the game is by quitting early before temptation puts you in checkmate when you least expect missed your opportunity warn the others too late they've succumb to the bait we're the victims we stay you're the snow white the prey now there's a soft spot in all of us a sweet tooth that tends to loosen you free of the gums that imprisons us but the fall alone could break the tooth in two

Black Sheep 03:18
04 Black Sheep all of your life what've you tried to find you've opened the door but you've locked yourself inside blinded by the light the gold reflects the sun back into your eyes but your greed told you to lock the door and slowly you regain your sight there's no where for you to go you're left alone with no food or water at all but you've got the fortune of a king and nobody will ever know through the slit of the door you count the cycles of dark and light hoping that someday someone will find you offer to give you a way out for a price before you dry up and shrivel away and as it turns out he shows his face this night he is the ghost of your former self he says i'll show you the way but you will pay every last dime you gave it all away in exchange for the way your life used to be and you question making a mistake but i'm afraid that it's too late this organ that is caged inside hinders my sight once in love with a black sheep underneath my bedsheets i toss and turn then one day learn life's too short to be selfless you've sheared that wool now end it

Banana 03:10
bring this old banana na na bring it back to life for us just a little just a little bit of time 'til its life is irrelevant now brace yourself na na na na let me demonstrate to you under the peel for the peel is my cranium my brain rots from a lack of use i'm nowhere as astute as once upon a time now i'm just getting by on life support i'm barely hanging on my mind's given up like the banana before ya once upon a time i thrived not getting by on life support i'm barely hanging on my mind's given up like the banana before these days ain't quite the same (1 2 3 4) five six peel this old banana na na peel it back and take a bite you hesitate and ascertain a late expiry date the freezer is where i sleep tonight these days ain't quite the same decaying all that's left of my brain of my brain (1 2) three four it turns out the way things align have catered to this depleting pride my confidence has been stomped on twice with enough left for one last lullaby but such is life rotting more each passing night i'll be surprised if unlike this banana i survive

O'Hare 03:47
i feel so lonely in this crowded place feels like it's been a month since i've seen your face but the truth is earlier today you dropped me off and i flew away and every minute here that passes by is one more minute without you that i can't rewind so here i lay in a so called cot under the sheets with my tear drops ya ooh ya ooh ya some ain't as tough as they seem ooh ya ooh ya i'm missing you more than anything sleeping alone at o'hare international wishing that last night was tonight cuz all i want every night is you there by my side like a dream life coming to life all alone at o'hare international wishing that last night was tonight cuz all i want every night is you there by my side like a dream life coming to life i lie awake in a conscious state thinking about you as the night withers away i wanna hop on the first plane back but life will get in the way of that turns out this layover will have me flying out of here tomorrow back to mountain time leaving you naught but a song composed here in chicago o'hare tonight ya like a broken record again again again again again repeating someday (i'll come back to you) love hurts and leaving reminds me (i'll come back to you) how soon 'til we can be back there (i'll come back to you) just never soon enough

Alex 05:14
hey remember the day the day i promised someone something that to this day seven years late remains untried and hey all of this time this time i wasted doing nothing is gonna bite me in the ass and set me right cuz what did i do with my time what did i do what did i do do do i'll tell you this my neglect now nurtures a growth of selfishness in my life so this man years ago said as i lay buried in his debt talks of his son and tells me to write a song for that boy that boy's got talent ain't that right he's got that city locked up tight that boy will be alright and i said hey there's more to be told more that should not be conveyed lightly for this boy's father won't be there he'll never know that hey the promise i made with him would one day be fulfilled but i will regret not having been more punctual cuz what did i do with my time what did i do what did i do do do it was a test and i failed it now i'm rotting with regret 'til i come through cuz this man years ago said as i lay drowning in his debt talks of his son and tells me to write a song for that boy this is for you alex know that this is what your father asked me to do ooh this is for you sorry for catching you off guard but please i owe it to you yaa when i knew you alex you were just a boy but boy the things you could do ooh when i knew you on those boards and bikes you rode better than all the young dudes ya i owe this one to you ya

Happy 04:47
i see it in the distance less than a month before me a brand new place to call my home the place i was meant to be and if i chicken out well then what else can i say don't wanna die don't wanna die thinking i could never satisfy the life that i've been craving so give it up give it up boy back the feeling with action get away don't wanna die don't wanna die thinking life is simply this and it's so simple i'm complaining so give it up give it up boy but still i have doubts does it just seem so impossible to feel a little bit happy ya just a little bit happy i wanna feel a little bit happy ya just a little bit happy i feel a little selfish leaving these things behind me but in a way i'll stay cuz this is what you've made me but who knows all this change could be all for nothing we all slave and betray for what could be something and then we crawl back and beg but they give us nothing and so i'm torn but I've sworn i'm on my way what would you say if i said we'd all play songs again like this someday but then again who knows what lies or even hides behind every next corner i'm sure there will be one more shot
10.
i'm asking you only for what you don't need you're unlikely to hear from a thousand feet i scream at the top of my lungs but it seems that my echo came wandering back to me somewhere past the distant skyline there is a place for us a place we can unwind the proper outlet to have this place for us a place we can define though for now we are stuck in limbo the distance is too far to travel equipped with the proper tools or not this remains our home this place was not meant for me we're the outcasts we're losers all lacking in modesty still we're hungry for more we're all stubborn and spoiled relentlessly at your door oh ya there's places for all these faces seeking a place to be but you've barred up your doors cuz you'd rather have them for yourself than finding clients for your whores i feel as fierce as a flee we need numbers more numbers but numbers that won't be reached all we can hope to achieve is to bring you discomfort 'til dealt with accordingly oh ya

days go speeding by i remember that night 20 years ago clear as the sky i was ok just a kid with a dream to work for the comic companies so i mailed my art in hope they'd notice without a microscope and they replied they wrote you're doing great kid keep chasing your dreams someday you'll succeed don't you get discouraged son all hard work pays off way out of the way some will go for your sake some in a bad way and some ok this kid i know had his priorities placed with his hockey taking the front row and good for him i say but his boss didn't feel the same the choice this kid was forced to make shattered dreams that day but why i'll never know (pleasure gained by pain) ya ya (some people live that way) but if i were that kid's boss i know what i'd say i'd say you're doing great kid keep chasing your dreams someday you'll succeed don't you get discouraged son all hard work pays off

Quitter 03:24
i apologize for every time i give my wing to a hitter neglecting the most important things in life to me all i want from you my friend is for you to get back on the horse that you fell off before cuz i know what you've got in you don't you cry so loud put the white flags down white flags down ya don't stop cuz you quitters never can be winners (as we all know) i can't stand back here watching you destroy your liver (as do we all) i don't think that you realize you're a homerun hitter (as we all know) so get back up and finish what you put together together whoah i recall the day when you would tell whatever it was to get the hell out of the way but now the new results are in in all honesty i still believe you've got a piece of that person rolled up in your sleeve so let the magic show begin where did the things that you love go when you took it upon yourself to crush 'em up and throw 'em away i looked through the trash and all i found was a stash of all these dirty syringes and a bag of some leftover cocaine i've never been there before but there's more love for you here than there'll ever be there for you at the bottom of a trash pail

Another Year 02:56
do my dishes do my laundry make my bed waste all my money never shaven never showered hit the bars and wonder how i'd make it home hello this sucks i've gotta find some place to go another year and i'm jumping off the boat ya wake up there's so much better don't wanna be an oil rig veteran can't wait to spit on this shitty state we're in ya intoxicated for the sake of contemplating my escape i'm overwhelmed by overvalue twice the price in half the time you turn around i've jotted down opportunities i've found but for the market that i'm in ya right this is bullshit when i'm old and opportunities unfold you be sure to count me in one day i'll be wanted but i'm not wanted

about

Final Act of Selflessness; the group's fifth full length release and quite easily their best and most defining album to date. The Albertan Quartet stayed true to their roots and paid homage to many of their influences amid perfecting and dialling in their own signature sound.
